We arrived to our next location via seaplane, via a quick stop in Malé to change planes. The Westin Miriandhoo opened in August 2018, although to me; you would never have guessed. I always anticipate young resorts to have many teething problems, but I couldn’t really fault this resort at all! The food was exquisite and everywhere you went, you were served by very warm smiley staff. The resort sits on a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve site and is surround by the clearest water and beaches. The island was small, and could be walked by foot in 20 minutes - perfect daily exercise.
The Westin feature 70 villas and suites, 41 on the island and then 29 over water suites. Much to our excitement, we were given a water suite. The only words that could be heard from our mouths as we stepped into our suite was ‘OMG! ARE YOU KIDDING ME’. Each villa is poised on stilts and is over 200 square metres each, it genuinely felt like a penthouse apartment with a view you could only DREAM of! Every part of the resort was completely unique in it’s decor, lots of lovely dark mahogany wood, with built in lighting, Japanese toilets and tasteful Scandinavian furniture with a few Indonesian touches. Every villa also comes with a personal butler…
For over a decade, The Westin have been leaders in the wellness and hospitality department. They live by the philosophy “ Empowering a Better You” through the brand’s Six Pillars of Well-Being: Feel Well, Work Well, Move Well, Eat Well, Sleep Well and Play Well. Each guest is organised an itinerary before arriving, it is the guest’s choice if they wish to follow or not. The itinerary gives you an insight into the different cuisines, working out with a personal trainer before breakfast but also giving a perfect turn-down routine at night, where they leave sleep oil to put under your eyes or on your pillow - to ensure you have a restful night sleep. Will and I aren’t gym bunnies, although we’re active and fit we choose to do it through sports. So we didn’t attend any of the morning workouts, however all five other pillars, were most definitely hit!
There are three restaurants at The Westin, from the all-day dining experience at Island Kitchen, which stays true to the Westin brand’s Eat Well pillar through a thoughtful menu combining Chinese, Indian and Maldivian dishes. We came here everyday for lunch, experimenting with new cuisines from around the world! They then have ‘The Pearl’ which is exquisite Japanese restaurant; this sits on its own pier with exceptional views of the Indian ocean. I HIGHLY recommend dining one night at Pearl.
Moving onto their last restaurant, ‘Hawker’ where you can enjoy authentic asian food, with a twist! Will, chose a steak on the first night and said it was the BEST steak he’d ever had (he loves a steak), so that say’s a lot! The Westin also have a rooftop bar and a sunset bar - where cocktails can be served by the talented mixologists; in the next door room is a pool table and board game area, which we enjoyed nearly every evening!
We were given a couples massage at The Westin heavenly spa - which was quite literally, heavenly! The spa integrates the latest innovations in beauty and features suites for two with a jacuzzi, showers and panoramic views of the Indian ocean! They offer a wide range of treatments, you can view here.
The resort also has a fitness studio, where you’re granted 24/7 access and personal trainers are on hand to help. They also have an AQUA dive centre where snorkels and kayaks are available and If you’re visiting The Westin with children, then there is a kids club available.
On our second day at the The Westin, they took us on a snorkelling excursion out to the reef near by, where we swam with stunning HUGE turtles and beautiful colourful fish! It was an amazing experience.
I’ve seen some sunsets in my time, but there was nothing quite like watching it from our own water villa. We either spent our time in the ocean swimming whilst it was setting, or we sat with a glass of champagne from our sun lounger (SO SPOILY)!
We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at The Westin, and can see this island resort becoming an absolute hit in the Maldives! Thank you SO much for having us to stay!
