We were collected from The Westin, by a VERY swanky speed boat, to take us to Vakkaru. If the crew on board, catering to our every needs wasn’t enough, you can only imagine my face when they said “we have wifi on board”. Enough said.
We arrived to music and drums with the a team of people waiting to great us, yes - we felt like royalty for a split second.
Poised within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Vakkaru resort sits on it’s own beautiful, lush island, which features over 1,400 fully-grown coconut trees!
Whether you are travelling as a couple on a romantic break, or in a larger group with family and friends, Vakkuru caters for everyone. With 125 Beach bungalows, Beach Villa, Beach family villa, Beach pool suite, Duluxe beach pool suite, Two bedroom beach villa, Over water suite, Over water pool suite and a one, four bedroom water pool residence! We were given a over water suite… which was another WOW factor! Each guest has a 24 hour butler at your service, which was serious 5* luxury!
As previously mentioned, I have a love for bohemian style and at Vakkaru I had never seen interior like it! Every detail from the cushions, rugs, lamp shades, candles were beyond perfect. I am not joking when I say, I’d like their interior designer in my life!
Each Villa is given bicycles, which is the best mode of transport to get around the island!
One thing that I loved about Vakkaru, is their commitment to developing a sustainable business through various green initiatives - by producing their own electricity using solar, waste management, environment preservation, on-site water treatment technology also using re-usable glass waste (no plastic) and finally they grow organic fruits, vegetables and herbs on their farm to reduce food miles!
Vakkaru has a choice of 8 dining options, from Maldivian, Italian, Asia and Japanese cuisine. Our favourite dining experience was the ONU restaurant, you know how much Will and I love Asian and Japanese food!
AMAANY Global cuisine with a Maldivian twist is served in a light and spacious indoor – outdoor environment at breakfast and dinner.
ISOLETTA A contemporary Italian restaurant serving innovative dishes and fine wines for lunch and dinner. VAKKU Exceptional ingredients are on the menu at this signature fine dining restaurant, offering the finest cuts of meat, the freshest seafood and an abundant wine cellar.

ONU Let the tastes of Asia, coupled with the sounds of nature, captivate your senses over dinner in this tranquil garden setting.
LAGOON BAR Creative cocktails and light snacks can be enjoyed in this adults only bar above the crystal waters. It then turned into a Japanese restaurant in the evening.
CABANA This fashionable al fresco poolside lounge is the place to be, as you while away the hours in the sunshine or after dark and enjoy refreshing drinks in a laid-back ambiance.
PRIVATE DINING For those who want a more personal dining experience, allow us to create a beautiful meal on the terrace or a candlelit dinner on the sand, as you savour the best island dishes in the comfort of your own villa or suite.
Vakkuru has a diving centre called SPLASH, where you’re able to get snorkelling gear, kayaks, paddle boards, organise diving excursions and boat trips. As our villa had it’s own private access to the ocean, we borrowed some snorkelling gear and took off to the reef - a short 5 minute swim away. The amount of coloured fishes (of all sizes), was more than I saw snorkelling in the Great Barrier reef… NO LIE. They also have a gym, tennis courts and a kids club called Parrotfish - unfortunately I didn’t go inside the kids club, but I can only imagine it would be better than any club I’ve ever been too!
Vakkuru had the most divine swimming pool, with water that felt like silk on the skin! The pool led onto the white sandy beach and behind the pool was the restaurant ISOLETTA, which served seafood, western and Italian cuisine.
Among all the activities the resort has on offer, they also have a stunning SPA, with a sauna, steam room, cold and hot dipping pool. We spent one evening at the SPA, taking photos and relaxing whilst watching the sun set over the ocean.
Thank you Vakkuru!
